Baby Maddie is one!

Is it really only Thursday? It feels a bit like it should already be next Tuesday… that’s how busy this week has been :) One of the highlights of this week was the evening I spent with Rebecca, Jay, and Baby Maddie. Tuesday was Baby Maddie’s first birthday, and although there is a party coming up this weekend, Jay and Rebecca preferred for me to come and spend a quiet evening capturing their family life instead of capturing the craziness of a birthday party. It just so happened to work out that we were able to get the session scheduled for her actual birthday :)

(Just an FYI… if you are in a position where you need to choose between a family session and a birthday session… I recommend the family session. It’s awesome when you can do both, but if that’s not an option, I think the family session will be more meaningful in the long run.)

I adore this family. It has been WAY too long since the last time I photographed them, and I was super excited about the opportunity to catch up. Baby Maddie has grown up quite a bit in the last 9 months. She’s so cute!

I am always amazed by how awesome the dads I get to work with are. Jay is no exception… Sometimes his day gets crazy hectic at work, and by the time he gets home, he has missed his baby girl so badly that he doesn’t even want to change clothes before hanging out with her. I love a dad who isn’t afraid to play with his kids… even if he is dressed in full business attire.

I love this version of a family portrait… I captured one at the first session, and again at this one.

Last October…

This week…

Maddie was happy to show off her skills at telling me her age… She’s one! :)

Where’s Maddie?!

Aren’t Maddie and Rebecca’s smiles amazing? I laughed out loud at a couple of these images, their laughter is so contagious.

Love this expression…

And I love how everything babies do is captivating in their parents’ eyes.

Love this family moment. You can’t script stuff like this… it has to just happen.

Okay, so I’m a big geek… but the curl in Maddie’s hair made me think of the old nursery rhyme… So I have to share it :)

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very, very good,
But when she was bad, she was horrid.

:)

She’s very excited about clapping… I love how simple accomplishments are exciting at this stage :)

Rebecca asked Baby Maddie for a kiss, and instead, Maddie decided she wanted to give me one… Everybody say “Awwwww”.

Baby Maddie got a new swimsuit… It might be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Lots and lots of splashing.

Lashes! Love love love!

Swimming is hard work… so we headed inside for a quick snack.

Eating is messy work :) So upstairs we went for a quick bath!

I captured a few quick baby and daddy snuggles, and we called it a day.

What a fun session :) Jay and Rebecca, thank you so much for inviting me into your lives. You guys are amazing. I hope you enjoy your slideshow… and I hope to see you again soon :)
