My recent trip to Richmond also included a session with a new client… Yancey mentioned to me that she might know someone else who was interested in a session, and she introduced me to Sarah (via facebook:))… Sarah’s husband Rhett works with Yancey’s husband Steve… and they have a beautiful 8 month old baby girl named Cate. I was more than happy to squeeze in a session for this family (particularly after I checked out her facebook page and saw how adorable they all are!).
I’m always a little bit nervous when meeting with a client for the first time… but Sarah and Rhett put me at ease immediately. I loved how obvious it was that they really “got” the idea of Lifestyle Baby Photography… They seemed completely comfortable with showing me their life… and that’s exactly what I need to create my photographic art… I just need to be able to see an honest glimpse of life!
Plus, she’s adorable… my job was a piece of cake!

Daddy time :)

She has recently developed a button obsession. When Sarah mentioned this to me as something she didn’t ever want to forget about Baby Cate at this stage, I honestly wasn’t sure how to capture it. (I often doubt my own theories about how beautiful reality is… and then I am surprised by the fact that my theory was right:)) This series ended up being some of my favorites from the session! (The image of Sarah’s eyes watching her husband and child is one of my favorite images this year! I really love it.)

I love watching families love each other. It’s an amazingly intimate privilege.

Baby Cate was apparently famished ;) She got a bit fussy, so Sarah made her a bottle… and Cate couldn’t even wait for her mom to life it off the counter. This moment was hysterical!

(and aren’t her eyes remarkable? They’re so grown up!)

I think she might know she’s cute…

Sarah and Rhett have the funniest taste in dogs… I can’t imagine that it’s easy to go on a peaceful walk through the neighborhood when you own a giant black Newfoundland and a tiny white Westie… plus an adorable baby!

Loved this series we grabbed while hanging out on the porch. Love… in many different ways.

Cate was very ready for her nap… so Sarah and Rhett gave her a quick bath, and put her down for a nap.
(can I comment on her eyes one more time? They’re amazing!)

I think every family has a ritual for getting babies out of the bath… Sarah and Rhett’s is very much like mine and Nathan’s was for our kids. “Shake, shake, shake!” while getting kids to kick their feet so some of the water drains off of them. Too cute.

Lashes :)

I love the way Sarah and Rhett soothed Baby Cate as she laid down for her nap… so gentle.

Sarah and Rhett, thank you so much for letting me document your life! I’m really excited that Yancey introduced us, and I hope I get to see all of you soon! Cate is adorable, and you guys are doing an amazing job with her… it’s so obvious that she is very loved.
I hope you enjoy your slideshow :)
